An Almost-Catastrophe at the Lake

T&R Environmental was called to Keuka Lake to address a critical situation. A pair of 53-foot barges had overturned in 60 feet of 32-degree water. They had been hauling an excavator, driver motor assembly, tools, and pipe, and were fully submerged.

Full water containment was placed around the incident immediately to address contaminants. Our cold-water dive team used extraction boats, air cushion recovery, and a 75-ton rotator to fully recover all equipment and barge units. Mitigation was complete. No spills occurred, and no fines were issued.

Serving Our Schools

T&R Environmental responded to an emergency call from a local school district with a sticky problem. An industrial facility used to separate oil and water had backed up, causing malfunction and a huge mess in the wash bay, mechanics’ bay, and truck bay. Our team used a Code VAC truck and skimmer to pump off oil and inlet pipes were checked for blockage.  Technicians performed a confined space entry and vacuumed the water/sludge, finishing with a detailed cleaning of the 12,000 square-foot facility so contractors could restart their work. All samples were tested and the NYS DEC was sent a final report before disposal was completed and closure letters were sent to all authorized facilities.
